How to manage challenging delivery conditions
2021 has been a weird year for folks in the shipping industry and truth be told – we’re not exactly expecting things to get back to normal in the immediate future.
Supply chains are slowed, manufacturers are taking longer to pump out products and just in general, things are moving around the world at a slower pace – the obvious ripple effects of the global pandemic. For businesses that rely on speed and efficiency – that can be a huge problem and everything they can do to mitigate these circumstances and make a big difference in their bottom lines.
With that in mind, today, we’re going to talk about a few of the things you should and shouldn’t do when it comes to shipping items in today’s world. While it’s virtually impossible to overcome these circumstances – you can help take the edge off by doing a few things. Let’s jump right in.
Being patient
Our first word of advice above all else – be patient. Things are almost never going to move as quickly as you want them to in normal times, never mind times like these. There’s a lot going on that no one can control – us, you or them; so there’s always going to be an element of having to roll with the punches.
Don’t leave items in a loose box
Chances are – whatever it is you’re shipping will likely be out on delivery for a longer period of time than usual. Be sure that whatever you’re packing is ready for the trip ahead. Make sure it’s packed securely and always use new boxes. That way any potential wear and tear or damage can be mitigated over the duration of delivery. So if you have to wait a little longer, that’s fine so long as what’s delivered is in good, working condition.
Check what you can ship
Before you send anything – particularly through us – make sure it’s something that can actually be shipped. We live in a world of tightened restrictions today – and the same goes from the delivery and shipping of goods – so before your goods go, make sure they’re good to go!
Plan well in advance
If you know you’re on a backed up schedule, we implore you to schedule earlier to get out ahead of things. This year we saw a massive uptick in the volume of Christmas gifts shipped early – and that’s because people planned in advance and ordered gifts earlier in the event they got tied up somewhere along the supply chain. Don’t leave things to chance – get out ahead of it and while these circumstances are far from ideal – you won’t find yourself white knuckling a delivery deadline – or at least as many of them.
